Engagement, The Wedding, and Beyond

Hey everyone! I’m back!!

It’s been a while since I’ve had a new post but life happens and I just haven’t had the time or ideas to write anything new. But here I am today with something new and definitely different!

Engagement

As many of you know, I got engaged on April 28th to my best friend and absolute love of my life. While I thought the engagement was probably coming sometime soon, I had no idea it would be on that night! It was the perfect surprise and we were surrounded by so many people we love. Dylan had asked all of our closest friends to come to Churchill Downs for their first Downs After Dark of Spring Racing. Dylan and I met at Churchill Downs through a mutual friend back in 2014. Thinking back, how did I not know?! My sister and friend both came in town and were so excited to go that night. Our group was about 20 people! Hindsight is 20/20, right?

In addition to getting acclimated to my new position at work, I’ve been wedding planning every second! We’ve got our venue, date, and photographer and we’re narrowing down some other specifics. It’s so exciting! Stressful? Definitely. But exciting and sort of surreal.

Advice

What is your favorite place to look for invitations and save the dates? I know there are tons of options out there, but I would love some recommendations!

Additionally, what on earth should we wear for engagement pictures? We’ll be shooting them the last week of July. Summer outfits with some natural scenery are a must! Help me out, y’all!

Wedding Prep

Of course every girl wants to look their best on their wedding day. What better time than right after the engagement to get started? We all want to fit into our dress and look great in our pictures that will last forever. Not only do I want to look good, but I definitely want to feel good! There are so many diets out there that probably won’t last a whole year, like I need them to.

The only way to make a ‘diet’ last a year (and beyond!) is to make a change to your lifestyle. And that’s exactly what’s going to happen. When I did the Whole 30 at the beginning of the year, it was the best! I felt like a new person and saw great results. Without Whole 30, I’m back to eating out many times a week and I don’t stick to my meal prep like I should. I got out of the habit of going to my Pure Barre classes and it’s been a downhill spiral, as far as my health goes. The scale has reflected how poorly I actually feel. Some days I think, “what has happened? How have I let this happen?” Then I realize, “life happens.”

I’ve let life come between me and my healthy living goals. It’s been so easy to do, which is actually scary!

The Mind Game

In order to make a lifestyle change, you’ve got to get your mind right. So many times we get started with something and never finish. This is mental! All mental. How are we going to hold ourselves accountable for the decisions we’re making? Not just with our eating and healthy habits. For everything!

Social media has become one of my favorite ways to hold myself accountable. With Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, there are so many people who will be there to support all of your intentions. Whether that means posting pictures, small victories, or even little setbacks. Your friends and family will be there to support you!

A support group can also be helpful. This can be done on Facebook or through weekly gatherings. Find a few friends who want to achieve a common goal. Meet at the gym a few days a week or meet once a week to meal prep. Studies show that people who do things together are more successful – whatever the goal may be!

The Plan

Starting today, I am writing down every single thing I eat or drink. I have a notebook that I am leaving open on my counter. Whether it’s coffee or a handful of pretzels – everything I eat is going in that notebook. The plan is to write everything down for a week. After that, I’ll have a better idea of what exactly is going into my body. From there, I intend to start another Whole 30. I’m going to spend the week gathering recipes and feel good snacks that will help keep me on track! Y’all, I am so excited for this!

Your Turn!

Whether you’re getting married or just ready to feel better, what are your plans? What changes are you going to make to help yourself feel better? For your engagement, wedding or beyond? Once all the wedding hype is over, we still want to be healthy, look good, and feel great.

Share with me your ideas of maintaining that lifestyle after the pictures are taken and the events are over.

  1. You need to check out Second City Stationary. I went to college with the owner and she knocked it out of the park with our invites!!!!!

  2. First off, congratulations! Etsy has a lot of beautiful designs for invitations! As for your photo outfits I’d do something lightly floral & flowy (dress or skirt & top) for you and a solid polo or dressy shirt in a color to match your top with some khakis for your fiancé!
