8 Things to Accomplish in 2018

Can you guys believed it’s actually 2018? Where has the time gone? Either way, so many people are making new resolutions and goals for self-improvement, and I’m certainly doing the same. Check out my post about healthy resolutions here! The other day I was setting up my new planner in preparation of the new year and I realized there are truly so many things I want to accomplish this year. Many revolve around living more healthfully, but there are several that involve just being a better person.

In my current job, I don’t feel like I’m making much of a difference. I like to leave work feeling fulfilled and like I did something that changed someone’s life. Since I’m not finding that at work, I realized it’s just something that I need to do outside of work. I started brainstorming ways to make a difference and came up with many! So today I’m going to share the top eight things I want to accomplish in 2018. With the help of my Day Designer Planner, I feel more ready than ever to take on the year strong. You can still get your Day Designer here!

1. Run a Half Marathon

The last few months I’ve really gotten off the running high that I felt all summer long. It’s definitely more difficult to run when it’s 10 degrees outside, but it’s so worth it! In one of my other posts, I talked about the half marathon that’s held every year on my birthday weekend. In Louisville, the Urban Bourbon Half Marathon is always the weekend around October 22nd. Originally, the goal was to run it when I turned 30, but I changed my mind. I’m running it this year! I’m so excited to get back into running and a little nervous, too. I’d also love to push to run the half during Derby festivities, but we’ll see how training goes. I can’t wait!

2. Volunteer

What better way to feel fulfilled than to volunteer? I plan to work with my mother to attend some events she hosts as a volunteer. I’d love to get more involved in the Louisville community, as well. Whether it be at races or just general events hosted by various corporations throughout the city, I intend to volunteer during at least 5 events this year.

3. Donate to Charity

Another fulfilling opportunity. There are so many charities that genuinely need support. We all know someone affected by cancer, Alzheimer’s, or heart disease. These are just a few of the organizations that hit home. There are also local charities to consider. Although I haven’t decided exactly which organizations I will donate to, I intend to donate to four different ones throughout the year. Whether it be monetary donations or giving things they specifically need and request, I’m looking forward to giving! What better way to make someone’s day?

4. Lose 30 pounds

In 2017, I set an unrealistic goal of losing 50 pounds. The reason it was unattainable is because I didn’t plan properly. I didn’t set myself up for success and I thought it would come easily just by working out. Silly me. I ended up losing 13 pounds, which I’m proud of, but I still felt defeated since my goal was outrageous. This year, my goal is to lose 30 pounds. I’m starting the January Whole 30 today, with the intention of gaining freedom from food. What better way to set myself up for success? I finally realized how important diet is to all around health so I’m ready to achieve this year!

5. Be a Better Sister/Friend/Daughter/Girlfriend

It’s so easy to get busy and to take advantage of the people closest to us. Often times, the people we love most are the ones who see our bad side. I typically end up yelling at my mom because she didn’t say the right word after a terrible day at work. Not fair, right? In 2018, I intend to be more patient with those closest to me. I’ll work out my frustrations during a workout, rather than at my sister when we’re talking. I also would like to start really being there for my friends and family. Whether it’s just weekly get togethers to catch up or if they really need someone to talk to, I intend to be that friend.

6. Take 250 Pure Barre Classes

On December 30th, I hit my 500th Pure Barre class at my local studio! I was (and still am) ecstatic! One of my biggest goals in 2017 was to become a member of the 500 club, so it’s only natural that I push for a certain number of classes for 2018! My goal is to hit at least 750 classes before the end of 2018. The results of Pure Barre are incredible and the addiction is still as real as ever. I’m looking forward to the opportunities my studio has to offer and I’m so excited to continue seeing these results.

7. Travel to the East and West Coast

Traveling is the only thing that costs money that makes you richer. I didn’t travel as much as I would have liked last year. In spring 2018, I plan to travel to the west coast. I haven’t been any further west than Denver and Vegas, so I can’t wait for this trip! I want to see baseball games at a couple different stadiums and spend a few days in wine country.

In the fall, the east coast will be calling my name! I’m not sure there’s another place where the fall leaves are as beautiful as they are on the east coast. I’d love to take another trip all the way up the coast, ending in Maine. Details to come, but I am definitely looking forward to going back!

8. Live More Simply

It’s so easy to get caught up with the material things in life. I’m certainly guilty of this. In 2018, I intend to be more appreciative of the time spent with the people I love. I want to make more of an effort to relax instead of needing to be busy all the time. I want to appreciate the simple things again. Meditation will make a comeback in my daily routines and yoga will definitely be implemented into my workout routine. Each of these components will hopefully help me to recognize the little things are the important things.

My Intention

The goal of sharing MY 2018 plans is to get you thinking about what you want to accomplish this year. And also to hold myself accountable for these things. Some of them will be harder than others. There are also many other things I intend to accomplish this year, but these are the big ones. It feels so good to start the new year on a Monday. A new week, new year, fresh beginnings. I’ve been in my apartment for exactly one month today and there’s truly no better time to continue making changes for the better. It’s MY life, it’s time to really take control!

Your Turn!

What are some of the things you want to accomplish this year? Share with me one thing that you’re so excited to achieve in 2018. We’re all in this together so let’s motivate one another to be our best!

  1. I love these goals! Major props to you especially for recognizing last year’s health goal was too lofty and adjusting this year – I know that’s a common pitfall for all of us! I did the January Whole30 last year and really loved the results in my mood and energy level, I hope it will be an awesome experience for you! Cheers to the new year! 🙂
